15-4: Fruit Salad with Chocolate Sauce

I had picked out 15-4: Fruit Salad with Chocolate Sauce specifically because I didn’t think I’d have a ton of time to cook last week, since we took Memorial Day week off to work on some home improvement projects.

I even took EVERY shortcut I could think of to shrink that time commitment down even further (plus, my kitchen was out of commission most of the week), so this will be…we’ll call it truncated. You’ll see what I mean after the jump.

You’re essentially cutting up fruit and making a chocolate ganache. You might even need to slice and toast some almonds, if you don’t have those already prepped. But if you’re already using prepped almonds, what else could you use to speed up this process even further (if you were so inclined)?

Ingredients–the answer to my question above. Fruit salad from the market, prepped almonds (from the same market), and some thawed homemade chocolate ganache from my freezer (leftover from other recipes/projects).

There’s about a cup of ganache here, so I carved out approximately a quarter of it for this (so 1/4 cup of ganache). If you were following the recipe for 4 servings (and weren’t trying to keep an eye on calories), I’d just use the whole cup I have here.

This “fruit salad” from the market was comprised of about 5 strawberries, half a kiwi (already sliced), and then nothing but pineapple chunks the rest of the way down. I sliced up the strawberries, halved the kiwi slices, and chopped up some of the pineapple chunks, leaving the rest behind for later. What’s shown on the plate is for the 2 of us to share for dessert.

I popped the ganache “cube” into the microwave for about 15 seconds and then stirred it up to smooth it out–15 seconds was just enough to melt it, but not scorch it.

Drizzled that melted ganache (now chocolate sauce) over our fruit and sprinkled it with some of the almonds. They want you to serve the sauce on the side with the almonds on top of the sauce, but I think this conveys the same idea, especially if it’s just for a Sunday night dessert.

It was fruit salad and chocolate sauce, what’s not to like? There’s not a lot to it–you knew what you were getting with this one when you read the title.
